Notice on Strengthening the Management of Accurate Application of VGM
Dear customer
According to the Notice of the Ministry of Transport on Implementing the 2015 Amendment to Article VI/2 of the 1974 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea [2016] No. 92, starting from July 1, 2016, loaded containers must have VGM weight (weight verification of loaded containers). This regulation is crucial for ensuring the safety of ship transportation.
Maersk has always been committed to ensuring the safety of maritime transportation. In order to ensure the seriousness of international conventions and create a safe, standardized, and orderly market environment, our company will further strengthen the control of the accuracy of actual weight information of goods. Starting from August 1, 2019 (the date of freight calculation), if VGM weight misreporting or concealment occurs in goods exported from the Greater China region to the world, a container weight misreporting fee will be charged. At the same time, our company will claim compensation from the responsible party for all losses and expenses caused by VGM misreporting or concealment, and reserves the right to pursue legal responsibility.
The specific charging principles and standards are as follows:
Fee Name: Box Weight Error Reporting Fee
Charging object: collect from the container weight declaration person, and charge according to the natural container
Fee triggering conditions:
(1) The actual cargo weight exceeds the approved load capacity of the container;
(2) Although the declared VGM weight does not exceed the maximum allowed total weight, the actual total weight
The absolute error with VGM weight exceeds 5% or 1 ton (whichever is smaller)
Charging standard: USD300/natural box
The situation of levying container weight misreporting fees applies to customers who cause misreporting or concealment due to work negligence and/or intentional concealment, and there is no reduction or exemption. Therefore, Maersk kindly reminds you once again to submit the verified container weight (VGM) as early as possible before the VGM deadline and ensure the accuracy of the provided data.
